Getting the Most Out of Your Invisalign Treatment

Invisalign is an ideal option if you don’t want metal wire and bracket braces cluttering your beautiful smile. The treatment is often faster than the traditional method - and not to mention less painful! If you have made the decision to go with clear aligners, here are some helpful tips to get the most out of your Invisalign trays.

Wear Your Aligners

Invisalign is most effective when you wear the trays for at least 22 hours a day. In order to achieve this, eating and drinking will need to be minimized. Therefore, we suggest you remove them for meals but also eliminate snacking. This is one of the reasons people lose weight during the treatments, since it does make you conscious of your eating habits.

Change Aligners in the Right Order On-Time

Keep your treatment on track by changing your aligners when directed by Dr. Burks. If you haven’t been maximizing wear time, you may be advised to extend it. Additionally, you should ensure you’re changing the trays in the right order. Keep in mind that using the trays in a different order will not help your treatment go any faster and should be avoided at all costs!

Commit to the First 48-hours

When you begin a new set of aligner trays, wear them as frequently as possible during the first two days; it is crucial to maintaining consistent progress. Remove them for brushing and eating only. No cheating!

Clean Trays and Mouth Thoroughly

Rinse, floss, and brush after each meal and rinse after drinking throughout the day. This helps to ensure you don’t get cavities during treatment. Thoroughly clean your Invisalign trays with antibacterial soap and warm water. But be careful to not use toothpaste to clean the trays - it may scratch the plastic, which then leaves places for pesky bacteria to form.
