Emergencies

At the office of Dr. Robert Burks, we know that dental accidents can happen. As your local Winter Springs and Oviedo dental office, we want you to be prepared for both minor and major dental emergencies, so you don’t cause extensive damage to your teeth. It’s important that you know how to react, so below you’ll find a list of the common emergencies we see in our office and how to handle them.

Common Emergencies

Broken Tooth

In the case of a broken tooth, immediately rinse the affected area with warm water. Then, get a cold compress or bag of ice and hold it over the facial area of injury. If possible, try to recover any broken tooth fragments. Call our office at (407) 327-2030 and we’ll work you into the schedule as soon as possible.

If there is uncontrollable bleeding, you should immediately visit your nearest ER. Fortunately, most dental injuries are not that severe. In both situations, you should do your best to act quickly to ensure treatment is as effective as possible.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

If your tooth is knocked out, pick it up immediately. Do your best not to touch the root (bottom of the tooth). Rinse the tooth, and then reinsert it into the socket. To keep it in place, use a clean piece of gauze or cloth. If the tooth cannot be held in place, carry it in a glass of water or milk.

You’ll need to see a dentist immediately, so if this happens during the weekend, it may be best to visit the nearest emergency dentist near you. If it happens during the week, call us at (407) 327-2030 and we’ll do our best to help you immediately.

Broken/Chipped Filling/Veneer

If your cosmetic repairs are damaged, whether they’re chipped, fractured, broken or completely out, contact us immediately. We’ll do our best to schedule you immediately for an appointment. Chipped teeth are one of the more severe dental injuries, and it’s important you try to recover the missing pieces, as it may be possible to reattach them.
