Your oral health is our priority here at the office of Dr. Robert Burks. As your local dentist in Orlando and Oviedo, Dr. Burks is proud to offer patients a comprehensive selection of dental services, such as general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontics, and endodontics. The holidays are just around the corner, and we know many of our patients are looking forward to some well-deserved time spent reconnecting with loved ones, relaxing, and enjoying some of their favorite treats of the season. Unfortunately, many of the foods and sweets we love to indulge in around the holidays can do a number on our teeth. So with that in mind, here are some simple tips to help keep your smile shining bright for the holidays.

Tips for Caring for Your Teeth Over the Holidays

Many of us like to enjoy seasonal treats like sugar cookies, pie, or candy canes during the holidays, but unfortunately, many of these foods contain sugars that combine with bacteria in the mouth to produce acids that cause dental decay. Fear not, though – simply follow these tips to keep your teeth and smile healthy through the holidays:

  • Remember to continue your Hygiene Routine: The holidays give us a well-earned break from the rhythm of work and life, but that doesn't mean it should be an excuse to break your oral hygiene routine. Stay diligent about daily flossing and brushing your teeth twice a day during the holidays, as this is one of the most important ways to keep your teeth healthy.
  • Try New Tools: If you're looking for a stocking stuffer that will help your smile, there are a number of oral hygiene tools that you can use to supplement your normal regimen of brushing and flossing. Tools like interdental toothbrushes, water picks, and other oral hygiene tools are a great way to keep your teeth extra clean during the holidays.
  • Choose Water: It's not just sweets that pose a danger to teeth during the holidays: sugary and acidic drinks like apple cider, juice, and red wine can also contribute to decay. To protect your teeth, stick with water in your cup for this holiday season.

Invisalign may take longer if your case is more complex, such as if you have severe crowding, crookedness, or a major spacing issue. Your time wearing Winter Park Invisalign may also be shorter or longer depending on what you want to change about your smile, and what it will take to correct certain issues. Many patients will start to see the effects of wearing their aligners within a matter of weeks.
